Understanding your Nomad Health pay stub
Table of Contents
At the end of the day, we know that the numbers on your paycheck can make a big difference in helping you meet your financial goals. At Nomad, our healthcare travelers get paid every week on Fridays through direct bank deposit.
Navigating pay for travel nurses and travel allied health professionals can be intimidating, especially when considering factors like taxes, non-taxable stipends, overtime, and blended pay rates. To help you fully understand your Nomad pay stub, we’ve compiled this guide that breaks down the nuances of your paycheck.
What to know about your pay stub at Nomad Health
Get to know some of the common terms and definitions that define your take-home pay as a Nomad traveler.
Non-taxable income
Non-taxable income, or per diems, comes in the form of weekly stipends that are intended to cover duplicate expenses in housing, meals, and incidentals. The non-taxable stipend is based on per diem rates set by the General Services Administration (GSA). These rates are adjusted to differences in cost-of-living by county.
To qualify for a non-taxable stipend, travelers must satisfy standards set by the Internal Revenue Services (IRS), namely maintaining a tax home or a place of residence while away on a travel assignment.
Taxable income
Taxable income is any additional taxed income you receive for your travel assignment. The sum of your taxable income and non-taxable income reflects your total gross pay.
Gross pay
Gross pay is the total amount of pre-tax income you’ll receive weekly for your travel assignment. At Nomad, we display the gross pay on our job posts and offer emails. The gross pay is your taxable hourly rate multiplied by the amount of scheduled hours per week, plus your weekly per diems.
Overtime pay
Overtime pay applies to all Nomad Health travelers who work over 40 hours per week. Overtime is almost always 1.5 times more than your taxable hourly rate.
Blended pay rates
Nomad displays travel jobs with a blended pay rate; this is your non-taxable income broken down as an hourly rate, added to your taxable hourly rate.
